Hygiene and gum health in Littleborough

Healthy gums keep teeth in place for life. A professional clean removes the hard tartar that brushing cannot shift, and leaves your mouth feeling fresh.

About hygiene and gum treatment

Even with careful brushing, plaque hardens into tartar in places a toothbrush cannot reach. Over time it irritates the gums, causing bleeding, bad breath and, eventually, gum disease, which is the most common reason adults lose teeth.

We offer a straightforward scale, air polishing to lift stubborn tea, coffee and smoking stains, and periodontal (gum) treatment for people whose gums need more care.

Hygiene & Gum Health

Signs your gums need attention

  • Bleeding

Pink in the sink when you brush or floss is often the first sign of gum inflammation.

  • Bad breath

Breath that stays stale despite brushing can be a sign of bacteria below the gum line.

  • Receding gums

Teeth that look longer, or are suddenly sensitive at the gum line.

  • Loose teeth

Teeth that feel wobbly or have started to drift apart need checking promptly.

Good to know

Hygiene & Gum Health: your questions answered

Does a scale and polish hurt?

Most people find it comfortable. If your gums are sensitive, tell us and we can go gently, take breaks or numb the area.

What is air polishing?

Air polishing uses a fine spray of water, air and a gentle powder to lift surface stains and plaque. It is quick, comfortable and great for tea, coffee and smoking stains. It costs £79.

What is periodontal treatment?

Periodontal treatment is a deeper clean below the gum line for people with gum disease. It is usually spread over a few visits, at £85 per appointment.

Will cleaning make my teeth whiter?

A clean removes surface staining, so teeth often look brighter. To change the natural shade of your teeth, you would need teeth whitening.
